As much as we'd all love to have a sparkling-clean toilet bowl, the reality is that your loo can get pretty mucky, no matter how many times you may scrub it.

Unfortunately, many of us will have encountered the dreaded black streaks inside our bowl at one time or another, and, as per sod's law, you may end up noticing them just as you're cleaning frantically ahead of having people over.

These black marks aren't any reflection of your homecare skills, however, and will usually be caused by mould, bacteria, or, most likely, mineral deposits.

This is an especially common issue if you live in a hard water area where mineral deposits end up forming in your toilet, creating stubborn limescale.

Thankfully, savvy Mrs Hinch fans have shared their go-to hack for banishing grim black toilet stains, and claim a trusty 88p ingredient works like a charm.

Taking to a popular Mrs Hinch cleaning hacks page, one houseproud fan admitted she'd reached her wit's end when it came to the black marks in her loo, having tried everything she could think of, the Daily Express reports.

Posting a pic of her blackened loo bowl, she wrote: "No judgement please. I've tried everything to get my toilet clean, any advice?"

A vast number of group members suggested she use the "amazing" Harpic Power Plus toilet cleaner tablets, promising it would take just one simple overnight application to melt any unsightly dark spots away.

One person urged: "Use the Harpic toilet cleaner tablets. My toilet gets hideous and covered in black impossible to remove stains. This takes it right off."

Another advised: "Throw two of these down it and leave overnight. It only takes one application. In the morning flush the toilet and stains will have melted away."

It's recommended customers leave one tablet in their bowl for at least six hours for regular cleans. When it comes to tackling heavy limescale buildup, however, it's best to pop two tablets in your loo and leave overnight.

You can pick up a pack of eight Harpic Power Plus toilet cleaner tablets from Sainsbury's and Tesco for £3.50 for a pack of eight, or 32 tablets from Amazon for £9.99.

Given that just two tablets are needed to fight stains, this hack works out as just 88p each time.
